Tickets are now on sale for the Second Stage production of Quiara Alegria Hudes’ 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Water by the Spoonful. Directed by David McCallum and starring Liza Colon-Zayas, Armando Reisco and Bill Heck, Water By the Spoonful will begin performances Decmeber 11 at off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre. Opening night is set for January 8, 2013.
In addition to Colon-Zayas as Odessa Ortiz, Reisco as Elliot Ortiz and Heck as Fountainhead, Water By the Spoonful stars Zabryna Guevara as Yazmin Ortiz, Sue Jean Kim as Orangutan and Frankie R. Faison as Chutes&Ladders. The play centers around Elliot, a soldier who, after serving time in Iraq, returns home to Philadelphia to spend time with his Puerto Rican family. But when he arrives, he discovers that his family’s life is in transition. As his mother’s online support group starts to overshadow his aspirations for the future, the online world and the real world collide. Water By the Spoonful is the second in a trilogy of plays that include Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue and The Happiest Song Plays Last.
The creative team for Water By the Spoonful includes scenic designer Neil Patel, costume designer ESosa, lighting designer Russell Champa, sound designer Josh Schmidt and projection designer Aaron Rhyne.
